CCM Fitlite 3DS Hockey Helmet Review

CCM Fitlite 3DS Hockey Helmet Review

Everyone today is worried about their head when it comes to contact sports. And you know what, you should be! When my teammates or friends ask me if they should replace their helmet, my response is that you probably know your answer already. Why cheap out with protection for arguably the one part of your body you need the most?

CCM has the redesigned Fitlite 3DS on the market now. It is the upgrade from the CCM Fitlite which was a redesign and rebrand from the Reebok K series of helmets. If you are familiar with these helmets, then you will know that they are comfortable and easily adjustable. It still has the Microdial System for easy adjustment. It still has the clips on the side of the helmet for quick sizing. The comfort foam is still there but the biggest change is that it now has D30 foam for greater shock protection.

The helmet is fairly light. And it is easy to adjust for a perfect fit. But I don’t know if it is my head size or what but I couldn’t get it to fit with the cage properly. It was either just a bit too long or a bit too short but never quite right. Maybe head is too big and my face is too short? I do know that I have never had that problem before though.

Out on the ice, there were a couple of other problems as well. First, the microdial was always poking into the back of my neck. I must have too short a neck but it was annoying but nothing more than that. The other issue was that sweat was pouring into my face. It was due to the comfort foam and what it was made of. The material made the sweat drip into my face. I suppose older style helmets absorb that moisture! Again, I found it annoying having to wipe my face more than usual.

Ok, now that I just shredded the helmet, I do think that it is a well build lid. It has great construction and it is easy to fit and adjust. It offers top of the line protection and you really can’t ask for anything more than that. It comes in at $259.99 for the helmet and $309.99 for the combo featured in the pics. If you are interested in the helmet, I do suggest you try it on and make sure you have a longer neck and face than I do! But I still think it’s a good buy.

Hockey Gear Review recommends the CCM Fitlite 3DS Helmet for high-level hockey players.
