CCM Resistance Hockey Helmet
Hockey Helmets are a funny thing. I have noticed that people I play with don’t replace the helmet very often but yet it is the most important piece you will have. For the longest time, hockey helmets have had high density foam that hardens over time and become ineffective. But now CCM has made some changes to the way that they have approached making hockey helmets.
CCM and the University of Ottawa have worked together to develop the R.E.D (Rotational Energy Dampening) System. It is a series of bladders between the shell and liner. The thought is that the bladders will help reduce the rotational acceleration during impact. The bladders also have liquid in them as well. The Impact Pods are also attached to the bladders and they are to help with a variety of impacts. It is also is very easy to adjust with the tab at the back of the helmet. I just put is on and squeezed the helmet into the right size, closed the tab and it was done. No messing with screws and losing them! The only thing I worry about is that if the mechanism breaks, the helmet would be useless as it wouldn’t be able to lock into place. I am not hugely worried but it is something to think about.
I found the helmet quite comfortable to wear. I didn’t even really notice it while playing and it allowed me to focus on my play. It is not the lightest helmet on the market but its also not super heavy. It felt good and it was easy to deal with. In the end, that is all you want from your gear. You want it to be comfortable and easy to deal with. I should also note that it fits more or less the same as other CCM helmets. I also have a V10 in a large and the same goes for the Resistance.
If you are in the market for a new helmet, you should really consider bucking up for the CCM Resistance Helmet. It is at the high end of the market ($229.99) but you are getting a helmet that was designed with cutting edge technology that really differs it from the competition. CCM has decided to to blow up previous designs and start from scratch and I think that they have done a really good job. It looks good, feels good and has some of the best protection on the market.
Hockey Gear Review recommends the CCM Resistance Hockey Helmet to high level players, especially those playing contact hockey.
