Exclusive Bauer Supreme 2S Pro Skates Interview Part 2

We were lucky enough to interview Jason Bird Clarke, who is a senior skate designer at Bauer. More specifically, he helped to design the all-new Bauer Supreme 2S Pro skates that will be released to the market on July 13th, 2018. Jason has provided us with a rare and unique look into the process of designing skates at Bauer.

We are very thankful to Jason, Senior Industrial Designer, and the team at Bauer Hockey for providing us with this extraordinary chance to learn more about the Bauer Supreme 2S Pro skates.

Here is part 2 of our interview.

How does the Supreme line differ from the Nexus and Vapor lines?

Specifically, in skates, the fit has been the main difference between each model. Vapor fits a low profile foot with a shallow heel pocket where a Nexus fits a high profile foot with a deep heel pocket, and Supreme is in between these. Over the last few years, we’ve had new tools at our disposal to really fine-tune the fit. As we’ve known for years, getting the player into the correct fit will improve their performance. We have engineered Supreme for a player who skates north to south and wants a fast, powerful skate stride. A Vapor player is looking for a quicker east to west skate stride.

What type of player should be considering the Supreme line?

It begins with the right fit. Supreme fits a mid profile foot with a mid-heel pocket and instep. The second thing to keep in mind is that 2S Pro skates are engineered for the player who skates coast to coast with maximum power. With that said, an agility-style player can benefit from these skates as well if they’re looking to boost their skating speed down the ice.

Any last thoughts the readers might want to know about the skates or other upcoming products?

For sure! Another key launch we are excited about is the MyBauer Custom skate program, which launches mid-July 2018. The Bauer 3D Skate Lab scanners that are in approx. 225 stores across the globe will be used to scan the player’s foot and create a customized skate based on their unique foot shape. The players scan goes through a technical software analysis and 3D printing is used to created tools to create a one of kind custom skate.

He or she will also be able to pick the key components they want on their skates, such as the type of Eyelet Facing, Liner, Tongue, and Runner. They’ll also be able to add their name and number on the skate. We’ve been building custom skates for professional players for many years and it’s very exciting to bring this to level of service to all players across the globe.

Strictly speaking of the 2S Pro skates, these are engineered to perform. There were many people involved in the research, development, design, testing and validation of these skates and we’re all very excited to see these on the ice in 2018! I’m very proud to be a part of Bauer Skate team.
