NHL Front Helmet Numbers

NHL Front Helmet Numbers

Apparently the NHL has decided to make a change and add numbers to the front of the helmets. I am not 100% on this but it seems to be happening. Apparently the numbers are being added on to help on ice officials, broadcasters and the tv viewing audience.

I am not sure that I am on board with this. I think that the numbers look out-of-place on the front of the helmets but I also don’t like the road jerseys being white. I don’t think that the NHL listens to what I have to say!!!

What do you think? Is it a good or bad thing? Feel free to chime in and let us know how you feel!

About the jerseys I’m ok with the white one on the road because I think teams should show the colors at home in front of their fans and not on the road.

Hi Roger, I hear what you are saying. My point is that the visiting teams are always wearing white jerseys and the home fans never to get see anything other than the same two colours that play in whatever rink you are watching. My feeling is that if the home team went back to white and visitors wore the colours, then it would be visually more interesting every night. In the end it is only hockey and most people will focus on the game and not the jerseys!

Fans enjoy seeing their team’s colors at home. One of the points of having the home team wear the colored jersey is to have it identify with the city, the fans, and their “home colors.” Wearing white at home would just showcase the visiting team’s colors. The home team’s colors add to the home-ice advantage as the visiting team has to submit to the white sweaters and not show off their team colors as effectively as the home team.

I can see your point. But I guess my point of view stems from my early days of watching the NHL and the games seemed more colourful from a jersey point of view.

Thanks for stopping by and hope to hear more from you!

I agree with you. I can’t stand the numbers on front of the helmets. It does look out of place. The NHL is always changing things. They look like unicorns
